Spooky Safe Halloween Alternatives
COVID-19 has thrown a wrench in everyone’s plans. Creating a sense of normalcy while keeping safety measures in mind can be challenging. Just because the holidays aren’t traditional this year doesn’t mean they can’t be fun and memorable. Here are a few spooky safe ideas for Halloween:
- Go on a Halloween scavenger hunt around town with your family! Come up with a fun list of fall/Halloween items to be on the lookout for while driving or walking around town, such as pumpkins, spider webs, scare crows, and ghosts. Dress up in costumes and be sure to take plenty of pictures! Finish off the day with a Halloween movie night.
- Traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating is discouraged this year. Instead, reach out to a group of trusted family or friends to see if they would provide pre-packaged goody bags for the kiddos. Encourage them to leave the bags at the end of the driveway and visit at a distance from the front porch.
- Have a pumpkin decorating party with a small group of friends outside and at a safe distance. Consider creating a station for each child with everything needed to carve or decorate a pumpkin. Put on some Halloween tunes, let the kids dress up, and have a spook-tacular time!
Remember, a costume mask is not a substitute for a real mask unless it properly covers the mouth and nose! For additional resources on how to navigate holidays during the pandemic, visit the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website.
Another fun idea would be to host a virtual costume contest with friends and family! Get creative and have a good attitude. Halloween 2020 will be one to remember!
