Fall horse sale date set at MSU
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Horse enthusiasts will find a lot to like at the Sept. 25 Fall Horse Sale at the Mississippi Horse Park, AgriCenter and Fairgrounds.
Sale-day activities begin at 9:30 a.m. with an equine nutrition program, followed by a lunch sponsored by Cargill Animal Nutrition. The sale begins at 1 p.m. and features almost 50 horses from the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station research herd.
Included in the sale are approximately eight to 10 mares, about 30 foals and one stallion. Pedigrees and pictures are available on the Web at http://www.msstate.edu/dept/ads/equine.
"This is the largest group of foals we've ever had, and they are of excellent quality," said MAFES animal scientist Peter Ryan. "Most are eligible for registration through the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association or Jockey Club."
Proceeds from the sale will be used to fund equine research at Mississippi State. Professional auctioneer Steve Massey will conduct the sale.
The Sept. 25 sale will be the first time horses have been sold separate from the annual MAFES Production Sale. That sale, featuring cattle from the MAFES research herds, is scheduled for Nov. 18 at the Horse Park.
The Horse Park is located south of Starkville on Poorhouse Road.
