MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Mississippi landowners interested in earning additional revenue from their land can take part in a Oct. 4 workshop focusing on natural resource enterprises.

The one-day workshop will take place at Birdlands Plantation near Como in Panola County. Natural resource enterprises include a variety of activities such as fee hunting and fishing, trail riding, agritourism, wildlife watching, and the operation of bed and breakfasts.

Mississippi State University's Extension Service created the Natural Resource Enterprises program to assist private landowners in developing alternative or supplemental means of income on their land.

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to speak with others who are managing an enterprise to receive advice and to learn from resource professionals. Topics to be covered include revenue potential, legal and accident liability, developing and operating an enterprise, marketing, laws and regulations, and cost-share programs. The afternoon session will take place in the field and focus on wildlife habitat management.

MSU is partnering with the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to offer this workshop.
