Peanut issues covered in Jan. 22 short course
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Peanuts growers will have the opportunity to learn more about their industry from a range of experts during a daylong event in January.
The Mississippi Peanut Growers’ Association meeting and peanut short course is Jan. 22 at the Mississippi State University Extension Service office in Hattiesburg. Registration is free, but preregistration is requested by Jan. 15. The Extension Service is hosting the event, and lunch will be provided.
The day begins with the annual growers’ meeting at 8 a.m., then educational discussions will last from 9:15 a.m. until 4 p.m. Topics include peanut agronomy, soil fertility, peanut economics, grading and Global Positioning System technology. Short-course speakers are from the University of Georgia, University of Florida, Auburn University, the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Alabama Peanut Producers’ Association.
The sessions will conclude with a five-man grower panel that will discuss other issues of importance to Mississippi peanut growers.
