Moore named interim head of regional center
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Reuben Moore has been named the interim head of the North Mississippi Research and Extension Center in Verona.
As director, he will oversee the daily operations of this regional facility, one of four strategically located across the state to meet the local information, research and programming needs of Mississippians. The center serves as a hub of Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station and Mississippi State University Extension Service research and outreach activities.
Moore will be responsible for the administration of research programs at four branch experiment stations -- Northeast Mississippi in Verona, North Mississippi in Holly Springs, Pontotoc Ridge-Flatwoods in Pontotoc and Prairie in Prairie.
Moore will continue to serve as associate director of MAFES, and his position in Verona marks a return. Moore was head of this center from 1999 to 2003. Previously, he was interim department head of MSU’s Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion in 2004 and interim director of the Life Sciences and Biotechnology Institute in 2007.
Before coming to MSU as an Extension dairy specialist, the Neshoba County native owned and operated a dairy farm near Philadelphia for 10 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in dairy science from MSU, a master’s in animal nutrition from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a doctorate in animal physiology from MSU.
Until a permanent replacement is found, Moore will fill the position previously held by Alan Blaine, who retired in March as director of the North Mississippi Research and Extension Center.
