Coahoma Extension gets conservation nod
CLARKSDALE – Ongoing conservation efforts earned the Coahoma County office of the Mississippi State University Extension Service the title of Earth Team state winner.
The staff won the state 2011 Natural Resources Conservation Service Earth Team Field Award winner after at the local and district levels. They received the award Jan. 19 at the 2012 Mississippi Association of Conservation District Volunteer luncheon in Jackson.
Don Respess, Coahoma County Extension director, said the award recognizes long-standing cooperation with the agency and an extensive history of conservation efforts.
“Coahoma County is in the middle of the Delta, which has the state’s best cropland and tremendous natural resources,” Respess said. “Conservation efforts and education are very important to our Extension office, and many of our programs revolve around these topics.”
Respess, Extension 4-H youth agent Shanna Taylor, nutrition program assistant Tamara Robinson, office associate Gwendolyn Hall and former Extension area health agent Maci Flautt received the award.
Earth Team volunteers partner with NRCS to provide leadership in conserving, improving and sustaining natural resources and the environment.
