Summit offers guidance improving tax refunds
INDIANOLA – An upcoming seminar will help people discover ways to secure, save and safeguard tax refunds for themselves or the clients they serve.
Mississippi State University Extension Service will offer the program from 11:45 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Charlie Capps Technology Center in Indianola. The seminar’s purpose is to provide organizational leaders and professionals with information on tax credits that can result in higher income tax refunds.
Rita Green, assistant professor of consumer economics at MSU, said most Americans hope to receive, and look forward to, tax refunds.
“This program will reveal some ways taxpayers can earn tax credits and multiply those earnings in the long term,” Green said. “Participants will learn how to help clients claim more eligible tax credits, save and invest their income tax refunds, and safeguard their money by avoiding predatory products and fees.”
The MSU Extension Service, in cooperation with the Alliance for Economic Inclusion, Mississippi Center for Justice and Consumer Federation of America, is sponsoring the program. In addition to Green, other speakers include Alexis Farmer of North Mississippi Rural Legal Services and Paheadra Robinson of the Mississippi Center for Justice.
Certificates will be issued for this professional development workshop. Prior knowledge of tax preparation is not required. The Capps Technology Center is located at 920 Highway 82 West.
