MSU offers three summer camps focused on nature
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Registration is open for three summer camps for young people interested in wildlife, natural resources and outdoor recreation.
The Mississippi State University Extension Service and the MSU Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture are hosting two residential camps and one day camp.
Conservation Camp: Natural Resources Edition will be June 1-4 and is open to young people ages 14-18, from rising freshmen to 2014 graduates. This camp features hands-on activities and field experiences related to conserving and managing Mississippi’s natural resources, including wildlife, forestry and water. Career professionals and MSU graduate students serve as camp leaders and career mentors. The four-day, three-night residential camp costs $300 to attend, including all food, in-camp travel, lodging and activity fees.
Conservation Camp: Wildlife and Recreation Edition will be June 15-18 and is open to campers ages 12-18. This camp focuses on the state’s wildlife ecology and outdoor recreational opportunities, such as fishing, archery and canoeing. Hunter Education certification is available. The four-day, three-night residential camp costs $300 to attend, including all food, in-camp travel, lodging and activity fees.
Conservation Camp: Day Camp Edition will be July 7-11 and is open to rising sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Held in Starkville from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, campers can learn about natural ecosystems and enjoy new outdoor opportunities while experiencing real-world science. Lunch is included in the $25 non-refundable registration fee.

Limited financial assistance is available through funding provided by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks’ Youth Participation Initiative. The application is available online.
A $100 deposit is due at registration for the residential camps. This deposit is non-refundable and is required even for campers requesting financial assistance. For both residential camps, siblings living in the same household may attend at the reduced price of $225 for each subsequent person.
