Native Son Farm hosts Alliance field day Oct. 21
TUPELO, Miss. -- Farmers can learn about growing and selling produce directly to the consumer during an on-farm field day organized by the Alliance for Sustainable Agricultural Production.
Will and Amanda Reed, owners of Native Son Farm in Tupelo, will host field day attendees on Oct. 21. The couple will talk about their experience of opening and developing one of Mississippi’s first Community Supported Agriculture farms. They will share their knowledge of running a 20-acre, multisite Certified Naturally Grown farm that directly serves consumers. The Reeds also offer their produce to the public at farmers markets and a farm-owned produce stand.
Native Son Farm is located at 1025 Lumpkin Avenue in Tupelo.
Personnel with the University of Mississippi Transactional Law Clinic also will be on hand at the field day to offer free legal advice to farmers.
The field day is free, but preregistration is required. On-site check-in opens at 10 a.m. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.
Field day sponsors include the Mississippi State University Extension Service, Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, Alcorn State University Extension Program, University of Mississippi Transactional Law Clinic, National Center for Appropriate Technology, Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, and Mississippi Department of Education.
