Workshop assists in international marketing
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi producers looking to sell their goods overseas can learn how to connect with international markets during a two-day workshop.
The Mississippi State University Extension Service will host the International Agricultural Markets Workshop at the Bost Extension Center auditorium Jan. 17-18.
On the first day, representatives from the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, Mississippi Development Authority, Southern U.S. Trade Federation, U.S. Commercial Service, Exim Bank and Farm Bureau will provide information producers can use to identify overseas markets and build an online presence that fosters international relationships.
Topics will include banking, business basics, product branding, shipping services, food safety registrations, building relationships with buyers, and using assistance from state organizations to connect with markets. The day will conclude with a roundtable discussion with all the speakers and a dinner with keynote speaker Mike McCormick, Mississippi Farm Bureau president.
The MSU Extension Center for Technology Outreach will cover a wide range of topics related to agricultural marketing on the second day. Topics will include implementing mobile commerce, the importance of an online presence, using social media platforms to promote products, cyber security and safety, and creating and maintaining a business website.
Sessions begin each day at 8 a.m. and will end at 1 p.m. Jan. 18.
Registration is $30 in advance and $40 at the door. The fee includes lunch and dinner on Jan. 17 and breakfast the following day.
