Cattle producers invited to forage management conference

NEWTON, Miss. -- New and experienced cattle producers can learn about the latest research in grazing management and forage during a conference June 19-20.
The Mississippi State University Extension Center for Forage Management and Environmental Stewardship and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station will host the Mississippi Forage and Grazing Management Conference at the Coastal Plain Branch Experiment Station in Newton.
A pre-conference tour of the station is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. June 19. The tour features warm-season legumes and grasses as well as hay production and grazing demonstrations. Registration for the tour costs $10 per person and is limited to 50 people.
Beginning at 8:30 a.m., the second day features speakers from faculty at MSU, the universities of Arkansas and Florida, and the Nobel Institute. Topics include an outlook of the forage and livestock market, weed control strategies, extending grazing seasons, regenerative grazing, building drought resilience through forage systems and mitigating the risk of production-limiting diseases in beef cattle production. The conference includes a lunch and is scheduled to wrap at 4 p.m.
