STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State University Extension Service and the Mississippi Municipal League are known for their commitment to serving the state’s communities. Now, the two are combining their strengths to equip municipal leaders with the practical tools and knowledge they need to do the same.

The Mississippi Municipal League, or MML, and the MSU Extension Center for Government and Community Development have partnered to create the Mississippi Municipal Solutions Network -- a comprehensive, joint technical assistance program designed to address the questions and challenges faced by Mississippi’s municipalities.

MML Executive Director Shari Veazey said the new network unites MML’s commitment to serving the state’s municipalities with the center’s expertise in municipal governance and its robust, research-driven approach to community development. The partnership is an expansion of the MML’s City Hall Center, which was established in 2008 to help municipalities prepare briefing papers, conduct surveys, archive ordinances and respond to requests for information.

“This partnership with the MSU Extension’s Center for Government and Community Development underscores our commitment to empowering municipal leaders with the tools and expertise needed to navigate today’s challenges effectively,” Veazey said. “By working together, we’re strengthening the future of local government across Mississippi.”

The unique platform offers municipal leaders clear, actionable answers through a variety of tools, including expert consultations, targeted workshops and dedicated question-and-answer sessions. Guidance on policy implementation, budget management, community engagement and operational efficiency is available through the new collaborative.

MSU Extension Director Angus Catchot said the new network is a vital support system for local officials facing complex governance challenges.

“One of the core missions of MSU Extension is education, and this initiative is a natural extension of that mission. Through workshops, consultations and tailored support, we’re helping city leaders strengthen policy, improve budgeting and deepen community engagement,” Catchot said. “Our goal is to ensure every Mississippi municipality, no matter its size, has access to expert guidance that helps drive effective decision-making.”

Catchot invited municipal leaders to engage with the new network and leverage the combined resources of both organizations, including solutions, research and technical assistance.
