Care to Read
Care to Read is a Reading is Fundamental early literacy program that supports children’s emergent literacy skills through training and resources for childcare staff in center- and home-based childcare programs.
Target Audience(s):
Early care and education teachers and directors
Objectives:
Participants will:
- Increase their ability to create an environment that encourages young children to explore and make discoveries about language and literacy,
- Increase knowledge in arranging and outfitting a classroom or home that invites children to listen, talk, read, and write,
- Learn techniques for engaging children in conversation and encouraging them to build oral language skills,
- Learn strategies for reading aloud with children,
- Increase knowledge in practices for encouraging children’s scribbling, drawing, painting, and writing efforts, and
- Be able to apply lessons from workshops to incorporate language and literacy throughout the curriculum.
