MISSISSIPPI STATE -- P.C. “Mac” McLaurin Jr. of Starkville will serve on a national association’s committee to address financial issues that face counties.

McLaurin is a professor of local government and leader of the Center for Governmental Training and Technology in the Mississippi State University Extension Service. He has been appointed a member of the Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs Steering Committee of the National Association of Counties.

One of 11 steering committees charged with developing and reviewing the association’s policy and legislative positions, this committee deals with all matters pertaining to the financial resources of counties. Among the subjects of interest are local government fiscal management, federal assistance, municipal borrowing, county revenues, the federal budget, federal tax reform and Native American issues.

“The counties of Mississippi are pleased to have this well-known and respected local government expert represent them on this national committee,” said Jack Gregory, executive director of the Mississippi Association of Counties. “He will represent us well and will contribute to the national organization’s policy development in the areas of local government finance and intergovernmental relations.”
