MSU workshop available for new business owners
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Starting a small business can be challenging, but a workshop for new business owners can help them know what to expect once they open the doors.
A seminar for anyone interested in starting a small business will be provided by the Mississippi State University Extension Center for Government and Community Development beginning January 9th. MSU experts will repeat the workshop the second Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. at the Golden Triangle WIN Job Center near Columbus.
“The workshop is designed for anyone who has an idea for a new business but little or no prior business experience,” said Hamp Beatty, an economic development consultant with the MSU Extension Service. “We will discuss the information in an informal, interactive classroom environment.”
Workshop topics include how to evaluate a potential retail market, determine startup costs, and develop a simple business plan with cash flow projections.
“We also cover the basics needed for operating a business, including licenses and permits, as well as insurance and other risk management requirements,” Beatty said. “The workshop is really designed to help new business owners avoid unpleasant surprises.”
For additional information about the workshop, contact the Golden Triangle WIN Job Center at 662-328-6876 or the MSU Extension Center for Government and Community Development at 662-325-7367. The job center is located on North Frontage Road at the Highway 82 Golden Triangle Regional Airport exit west of Columbus.
