Summer floral classes set for enthusiasts, pros
BILOXI, Miss. -- Floral enthusiasts and professionals can attend a variety of hands-on floral design workshops this summer in Biloxi.
Jim DelPrince, floral design specialist with the Mississippi State University Extension Service, will offer five individual workshops from May through August.
Four workshops are aimed at floral enthusiasts.
On May 26, participants will learn to create hemisphere arrangements, the classic half-globe-shaped centerpieces used for head-of-state dinners and wedding receptions.
On June 30, DelPrince will guide class members through the use of inexpensive vases to create eye-catching fresh floral arrangements. The class is titled Ivy Bowls.
On July 28, participants will learn to use foliage alone to make creative and fun pieces in the Leafwork workshop.
On August 25, class members will learn to use pressed, dried flowers to make delicate, pastel-colored picture bouquets in the Pressed Flower Picture class. DelPrince also will provide ideas for future creations.
Professional florists and others who want to begin or expand a floral design business will enjoy the two-day wedding workshop. DelPrince will lead participants through an intensive workshop with hands-on projects and discussion sessions about booking and fulfilling wedding orders. Workshop members will learn to build stable arrangements and bouquets.
All workshops will be at the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center located at 1815 Popps Ferry Road.
Registration fees and class times vary. Seating is limited. For more information or to register, go to http://coastal.msstate.edu or contact DelPrince at 228-388-4710.
