Succulent Container Plantings

If you are looking for a gift for a plant lover for Mother’s Day, or just because, a succulent container planting is always a great choice. There are hundreds of types of succulents that make beautiful combination container plantings. Succulents are plants with soft and juicy leaves and stems that come in a wide array of colors, textures, and sizes. They do not tolerate a soil that is too wet, so planting in well-drained soil is important. Drought-like conditions can wreak havoc on most container-grown plants, but not succulents. Pruning is generally not required, because they are slow growers. Succulent container plantings grow indoors and outdoors and should be put in a location that gets about six hours of full sun. They look great by a window in a bright room or office space. You can create your own container planting of succulents by purchasing individual plants and add them to a container of your choice. Make sure the container has holes for good drainage. When arranging your succulents, don’t be afraid to be bold and adventuresome by varying your leaf textures and colors. Choose a large one as your center plant and add some that cascade. You can add a tall one and fill in the rest of the container with some filler plants.
